Dermaplaning

DERMAPLANING

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a procedure that gently exfoliates your skin with a blade much like shaving.  This process removes dead surface skin, dirt, and vellus hair commonly referred to as “peach fuzz.”

Not to be confused with dermabrasion, where an aesthetician uses a high-speed, rotating tool to exfoliate the skin. With dermaplaning, a skilled provider uses a scalpel, or a tool called a dermatome. The aesthetician moves the dermatome, back and forth over your face to scrape the surface layer of dead skin.

Benefits of Dermaplaning

The exfoliation will even your skin tone and leave your skin brighter and smoother. The treatment improves the texture of your skin with added benefits of making your foundation go on better and not “cake”.  It will soften fine lines and wrinkles and help with hyperpigmentation, and acne scars.  Many people swear by this treatment however results vary based on your skin type, tone, and medical history but tend to last for about three weeks.

What You Should Know

Most people have no irritation or negative reactions.  The short-term side effects can include: some redness and irritation from the scraping or a slight tingling sensation for a day or so after the procedure.  Some people try to DIY this procedure and while it may be a more budget-friendly choice you will not get the same result as a home at best you will only remove hair and run the risk of cutting yourself.  It is recommended that you be treated by a licensed professional such as Jorden McPhee at Beauty from Ashes Aesthetics located minutes from Tampa on Brandon Blvd. in Brandon.
