CHEMICAL PEELS

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a procedure where a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove and refresh the top layers of skin. It is most often a treatment for your face but can be effective on your back, chest, and decolletage. With a light or medium peel, you may need to have more than one treatment to achieve the desired result.

Chemical peels are used to remove the top layer to reveal the fresh smooth skin below. It also improves wrinkles, discolored skin, and scars. Peels can be done alone or combined with other cosmetic procedures. They can also be done at different levels, from light to deep. Deeper chemical peels offer more dramatic results but require a longer recovery time.

Why should I get a peel?

If you have clogged pores or your makeup just seems to lay on top of your skin, you should consider having a chemical peel.  It’s also great to do seasonally and many opt to do it monthly.  It is just chemical exfoliation that is necessary for healthy bright skin. Depending on the issues you’re addressing with the procedure, you’ll choose a chemical peel is one of three depths:

Light chemical peel. A light chemical peel removes the top layer of skin (epidermis). It is used to treat fine wrinkles, clogged pores, acne, uneven skin tone, and dryness. You can tolerate a light peel every two to five weeks.

Medium chemical peel. A medium chemical peel goes deeper and removes skin cells from the epidermis and from portions of the upper part of your middle layer of skin (dermis). This also treats wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin tone. It is recommended that you repeat peels to maintain and achieve the desired result.

Deep chemical peel. A deep chemical peel is more aggressive. Your provider might recommend one for deeper wrinkles, scars, or precancerous growths.

You will want to schedule a consultation to discuss your skin type and tolerance to determine the right path for you.  Note that chemical peels cannot tighten skin or remove deep scars or skin cancer.
